Unexpectedly good films... Are there any that you thought were going to be bad, !

Question: You know what it's like.. you've been dragged to the cinema by a friend - or someone has brought a DVD to watch at your house, and you think "this is going to be complete rubbish"

Has that ever happened to you, but you have ended up really enjoying the film?

I'm not sure that I think they're going to be rubbish, but some I approach with hesitation because the description sounds odd or uninteresting.

My sister dragged me to see two movies that I ended up loving: "All the President's Men" and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". The first one is about Watergate, which my sister was fascinated with and I had become irritated by as it dragged on. Wow! How could they turn THAT into THIS?! I also didn't expect to like a film set in an insane asylum. That was my first look at the towering, wonderful actor Will Sampson. He was worth the whole movie, which I did like very much. Brad Dourif certainly proved his value as a character actor! I don't think that he's ever stopped working.

Films I hesitated to watch on cable then ended up being swept away by are:
Unconditional Love
Donnie Darko
The Vanishing~Jeff Bridges version
Encino Man
Clueless
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (although I already liked Keanu Reeves)
Ruthless People

I truly thought that I wasn't going to like these all that much, but they ended up on my favorites lists, and I suggest them a lot.

Night at the Museum
My husband bought it when it first came out on DVD and I hadn't seen it. Thought it would be rubbish but really enjoyed it

SUNSHINE
I am not into space movies and this was really cool because its about survival...
I just bought it on Blu-Ray the special fx are incredible/mesmerizing...

Anchorman
Borat
Million Dollar Baby

will add more later on...

Hmm...I usually read reviews of the movies before I go seem them/rent them....but if I had to pick a movie that was like that, I have to say...drum roll...The Pursuit of Happyness...I knew it was going to be great, I knew it and it is definitely my kind of favorite movies...but I was in a mood that didn't wanna see sad movies, but when I saw it, I was in love. lol.

actually my predicted movies are always turned out right but i guess some lifetime movie i saw ( hate this channel lol) and it turned out to be ok and i actually watched it.

there are a lot actually...but i could 't remember all of them.
you know the oldies film called mrs winterbourne...
i thought it was boring at first but then it turned out to be great.

The Sound of Music (dont laugh) true.

Batman and Robin was watchable despite the excruciatig reviews, National treasure was also quite watchable despite the fact that I'm not a fan of Nicholas Cages recent films. Foreign films are always good value (mostly because we only really get the very best of tthem releasedin the English speaking world). The recent spate of German films released in UK recently have all been great,

A friend dragged me to the cinema to see Klute. It's a great movie. I also enjoyed Alien but never thought I would, the hype around Men in Black put me off and I was told it was rubbish but I 've watched it 3 times, a good film.

doesn't happen that often I'm afraid....but a few years ago I rented Magnolia purely because I'd seen just about everything else they had...I was like 'what am I doing renting a Tom Cruise movie? I hate that guy...' Magnolia is now one of my top 10 movies of all time - Cruise is amazing in it, as are the rest of the cast....you have no idea how much it guts me to say anything positive about Cruise, but this movie is just a stunning piece of work....darn! I need to go watch it again now

Men Of Honour
HighWayMen
Life Of David Gale

Disturbia was a big surprise to me, i expected so low out of it (i personally think everyone did) but then i decided to give it a try and my thought of a crappy movie with evens stevens holding binoculars, actually was a pretty decent thriller

The Weather Man
