I am in serious need of some Intelligent commercial or independent films depicti!

Question: ...or other big cities like London.

E.g., Moscow on the Hudson, The Fisher King, Keeping the Faith, Serendipity, Sliding Doors, etc..

I am trying to undo this notion I've got stuck in my head that it is impossible or hard to find love or create healthy relationships in a big, busy city like New York--or that it is "rare." This is what a lot of people say or believe here. Please give me a break.

I need movies, with excellent stories or plotlines--urban comedies, dramas, realism, magic-realism, quests, journeys. No unrealistic "and they lived happily ever after" nonsense. lol. No tragic gang banger movies where someone has to die in the end. Just romance, true love, healthy struggle, give and take. In a word: hope.

I am a youthful 46 year old successful career woman, poet, and singer, with an active social life, currently in a romantic relationship drought. I am trying to keep the faith and learn to enjoy my own home life.

I am on vacation. This calls for movies.

Love Actually
The Holiday
French Kiss
You've Got Mail
What Women Want
Speed
Enchanted (but you'll have to head to the theater)

The problem is movie love stories are generally unrealistic "and they lived happily ever after" nonsense! :) What's worse, I'm starting to believe in happily ever after, now that I've found someone worth sharing it with.

The ones I like includes "Frankie and Johnnie" and "When Harry Met Sally". Not really the type most love stories are made of...but honestly I like them.

Edit: I forgot to include 'Untamed Heart'. Good luck

"You've got mail"

Also, a really good independent movie with Hope Davis is a winner. It's called, "Next Stop Wonderland."

Also I'm big fan of "Kissing Jessica Stein."

"When Harry Met Sally" - best movie! It restores your faith in love.

Check out most of Woody Allen's films as well. He's all about NY stories.

A lot of the movies cited by others don't take place in New York. ("Next Stop Wonderland," "Love Actually," "The Holiday," "French Kiss," "Speed"... really, "Speed"?)

Of course, you should start with Woody Allen (particularly, "Annie Hall," "Manhattan," "New York Stories," and "Hannah and Her Sisters.") Also, Nora Ephron ("You've Got Mail," "When Harry Met Sally," both nice Woody-Lite efforts), Spike Lee ("She's Gotta Have It," "Jungle Fever," "Girl 6"), Ed Burns ("The Brothers McMullen," "She's the One," "Sidewalks of New York"), and Whit Stillman ("Metropolitan," "The Last Days of Disco"). Going back a ways, there's also Neil Simon ("Barefoot in the Park," "The Goodbye Girl," et al).

Then there's "Serendipity," "Hitch," "The Night We Never Met," "The Object of My Affection," "Along Came Polly," "Down With Love," "Keeping the Faith," "Little Manhattan," "Jeffrey," "Mr. Wonderful," "Trust the Man," "Music and Lyrics," and "Living Out Loud." And that's just from the last 10 years or so. Good luck.
