The only thing the two movies have in common is that kids in high school sing and dance. HSM is not a remake in any way.
Fame was about students in a performing arts HS in Manhattan. Many of the musical and dance scenes take place within the walls of the school as you see the students in their classes. These scenes are important to the storyline. In addition, the movie deals with some serious issues, has nudity, and was rated R.
HSM is just a movie musical, like Grease or Hairspray.
I think the target audience for High School Musical is much younger.
NO WAY. It's an original story and screenplay. Besides, that's like saying that any film that deals with superheroes is a remake of Superman! Most high schools have drama programs that perform musicals all the time, so it's not unusual that more than one original high school movie would focus on the performing arts.
