Question: I thought it was a pretty good film but was dissapointed at the religious stuff, I mean the woman saying god told her where to go, I dont want to be preached to when watching a film no matter how subtle it is, and also i thought the message of the book was lost in this adaptation what did you think.

It's a good movie, but it didn't stay true to form in any way shape or form. The original inspiration for the story didn't come from the Omega Man, but from Richard Matheson's 1954 I Am Legend novel. There weren't any mutants in the book, but instead a virus transforms all living beings on earth into vampires (except Robert Neville, a middle-aged cynical white man). He quickly burns down the surrounding homes and transforms his suburban house into a fortress, complete with a garlic farm and mirrors in front of doors. He slowly goes insane trying to kill as many of the living and dead vampires as he can before they get him. He doesn't try to cure any of them, and he wasn't an important military figure in New York. He was just a man who was driven to research the virus because he was curious and slowly going insane. I would've liked this film a lot more if 1: it wasn't tied to my favorite short story of all time, and 2: it didn't preach to me in the 2nd half of the movie with the bull story of "other survivors". The book did that so much better and shocking. Then they ruined the title of the movie by changing the meaning of the final monologue. The acting was great, the locations looked real, but the CGI was horrendous. All in all it was a pretty good movie, but will soon be forgotten.

yeah i saw last week i thought it was good to FRANK YOUR NOT REAL

Didn't see it but don't think I'm going to to. Will Smith's in it. I think the title should have been changed to "Will Smith: Legend in his own mind."

I saw the original movie on tv with Charton Heston and didn't like it, either.

it was pretty good, it has a lot of holes in the plot, but otherwise I'd give it a B-

Completely agree that the message of the book was lost when the transition to the big screen occurred. If the movies would have just stuck to the book I think it would have been great. The ending was weak and the CG effects were horrible for its time.

I thought it was real good but i didn't feel like i was being preached to though. I don't worry about that so it never really dawned on me that there were any preachy overtones. but i thought the cg didn't look real enough. i thought it could be better. facial expressions were good and everything but they coud have just used real people. But besides that i thought it was perfect. i didn't read the book by the way. People were complaining it was boring and wasn't that good. They expect too much--like action every 5 seconds or something. They don't know how to just watch a movie and try to understand it. But yea it's a good movie.

I personally was surprised and a little impressed with the religious stuff. Our country is in uproar right now because athiests aren't afraid to speak their minds. I'm impressed that Hollywood threw in their two cents. I didn't find it preachy at all. I think they were just making a statement : We believe that God exists.

Still, I do agree that it was an odd undertone for this particular movie.

Overall, it was a pretty good movie. Not scary, like I'd heard, but intense. Keeps you going.

After reading all these answers, I will not go see the movie now. I like Will Smith but I heard he dies in the end as does the dog.

Trent - your answer was very informative, and I will get Richard Matheson's book at the library and read that rather than seeing the movie.

I didn't feel like I was being preached to. I felt like I was observing a woman who felt that SHE had had a revelation. There's a big difference. Just because someone believes in God, doesn't mean that they are preaching to you when they express that belief.
