Question: I watched this movie once and was so confused by it. People at work say they understood it, but what was the point of V keeping the lead actress locked up in that chamber and making her nuts? I'm confused....

Remember when V used her before to trap the Bishop Anthony James Lilliman? She betrayed V by alerting the Bishop (but he did not believed her and thought it was part of the game).

Then, when V saves her from the raid at her friend and TV host Gordon Deitrich' house he kept her locked and make her believe she was being tortured by the goverment to test if she was loyal to him or not. Also, he make her learn that there are more precious things to lose than life.

Vendetta means REVENGE! ... or Payback.

Hope that helps. :)

he led a resistance in a world that was strickly ran by the government, there was no privacy, freedom or liberty, and v fought back. she went nuts while understanding this.

an often prolonged series of retaliatory, vengeful, or hostile acts or exchange of such acts <waged a personal vendetta against those who opposed his nomination>

he had to lock her up for 2 reasons
1) so she wouldnt give away his position
2) for the torture part, he wanted to see if he could make her have no fear, and make sure she would not give him up to the goverment..

Revenge is the way I took it. Cool movie by the way.

vendetta (i think in french) means revenge mwahahahahaa

He was testing to see how strong she was and how long she would be loyal. She was completely prepared to die but she didnt care so she somewhat 'faced death'

Did someone have a vendetta for her?? These are Sue Grafton novels and they all use a letter of the alphabet that she has to come up w/ a corresponding word. I could see where sometimes the plot would be a little off.

means..
v the abbreviation of vendetta
vendetta means revenge

I was confused 2 when I first saw it! I think he was tryin 2 break the governments hold over her. He was tryin 2 change her soo much that when she went out into the world no one would recognise her. Also he wanted 2 show her that the government did horrible things to alot of ppl and she was not alone in her pain.

the purpose of him keeping her locked up was to show her that there was more then her life to lose, and that even if they take her life they cannot take away or change what she believes in.

Set against the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain, V For Vendetta tells the story of a mild-mannered young woman named Evey (NATALIE PORTMAN) who is rescued from a life-and-death situation by a masked man (HUGO WEAVING) known only as “V.” Incomparably charismatic and ferociously skilled in the art of combat and deception, V ignites a revolution when he urges his fellow citizens to rise up against tyranny and oppression. As Evey uncovers the truth about V’s mysterious background, she also discovers the truth about herself – and emerges as his unlikely ally in the culmination of his plan to bring freedom and justice back to a society fraught with cruelty and corruption.

Vendetta is also known as blood feud.A blood feud is a feud with a cycle of retaliatory violence, with the relatives of someone who has been killed or otherwise wronged or dishonored seeking vengeance by killing or otherwise physically punishing the culprits or their relatives.Vendetta is the italian name for blood feud

i hope this helps you out

I have not seen the movie, but I have read extensive material about the movie and comic books. V kept Natalie Portman's character imprisoned as a test of loyalty. It was only when she said of her own volition that she would never reveal V, did he know she could be trusted. I'm sorry if this doesn't match up with the movie, as I can only tell from what I've read. Check out Wikipedia's page on V for Vendetta for a more detailed explanation.

Just enjoy the music. You don't have to understand everything. He kept her locked up because he wanted to know that she wouldn't snitch on him!

Because of her earlier transgression against V by Evey, V needed Evey to understand why he was trying to foment rebellion against the oppressors.

He did that by putting her through what he went through.
