Kite Runner: Do you agree that the movie could have been much better?!

Question: I have to say that it definantly could have been better. It definantly could have used more information about the relationship of Hassan and Amir as kids. I think they could have done more to show that Amir was genuinely jealous of the relationship he had with Baba. They also left out the fact that Assef was half german from his mother's side of the family and his whole speech to Amir and Hassan about how he agrees with Hitler's Nazi regime of eliminating ''inferior races such as the Hazara. They also never really explained what a Hazara was or how brutally Ali was picked on and how terribly Hassan was tormented because of his mother. In fact the story of Hassan's suffered shame because of his mother wasn't even mentioned. Also, when Amir rescues Sohrab he initially tells him that he will be staying in the orphanage until paperwork is done for him to leave and Amir finds Sohrab about to attempt suicide. This part was not shown and it was not hinted at that Sohrab was raped.

yeah, i know. they didn't go into detail enough. then needed to explain things more so that people who didn't read the book would know what's going on. assef looked nothing like he was described as in the book!!! it was good, but could've been so much better!!!! i'm going to finish it!!!and they didn't show that sohrab was raped??? that was very important to the story, at least i thought so!!! that and amir's jealousy!!! they should've put so much more!!! and more music!!!

Yes, I agree with a lot of what you said. The book was so engaging and even moving, but the film was just not memorable. A lot of the history/stories used in the book to develop the characters and their relationships were left out in the film, making it difficult to connect with or even sympathize with any of them. It was not as powerful as I thought it'd be.
I also think they failed to portray all the dynamics of Hassan and Amir's relationship, namely that Amir was jealous of the relationship his father had with Hassan (as u mentioned). I watched the movie with a friend who hadn't read the book, and when I pointed out said jealousy, he said that he hadn't gotten that impression at all.
A lot of Afghanistan's history and cultural tension that existed between its people was never really explained either. Don't think they should have assumed viewers would know enough about it or could have picked up on how intense this tension was through just a few lines.

I totally agree!
