Question: It was planted in Lupin's third year (? year), so it would be Lupin (or Snape's) age minus about 13 years - assuming of course it wasn't just transplanted from somewhere else. But I don't recall anything specific as to how old the tree was. For that matter, I don't think the book ever really says how old Sirius, Lupin, Snape, and the the others were (although book 7 may have given their birth dates when Harry saw their graves).

I don't recall exactly, but I think in the movies Snape tells Harry that the Whomping Willow has been on the grounds "since before you were born".
