Why do you like movies so much?!

Question: For the true blue movie-goers. Why movie theaters not DVDs? And why movies more than series? Let me know your thoughts. Need some help for my little write up. But let's just pool in and discuss.

For me, it got to be because I love the theatre atmosphere. All the surround sound and big screens.

And I love popcorns. *grins*

Because nothing from the outside world can interrupt the experience. Not a phone call, nothing else to distract my eyes from the screen, no pausing to check the score of baseball, basketball or football game on another channel.

Plus, a theatrically released feature film is more of an event than a TV series -- like comparing a big convention to a weekly fan club meeting.

I like the sound/picture quality of the Cinema. Also, I love the feeling I get after watching it around a whole bunch of people. The popcorn is very good too.

Movies is like a high......it takes your elsewhere for a while! You forget about all the problems and worries! It puts you in someone elses shoes for a while, before you have to come back and face reality

I love watching movies on the big screen.. if I like the movie a lot.. then i buy it when it comes out.. but there is nothing like the experience of the theater.. oohh and I too love the popcorn!!!

Movie are an escape from my dull and boring life! are entertaining and DVD's your alone(in my case0 so the social aspect nice too!

I hope you can tolerate a little negative point-of-view to add to your "little write up".

I love movies, but virtually none over the past twenty years or so!

I've found most movies to be multi-million dollar bores and snores, depending too heavily on sex, violence, computer graphics, and lousy scripts, not to mention that I detest the obnoxious, uncontrolled, cell-phoning, unruly, audiences, not to mention (or did I mention that?) ;) the outrageous prices for theatre tickets.

Needless to say, I rarely go to first-run theatres any more, and even the local cheapo/second-run theatre ($1.50 a show) has little worthwhile.

Instead, I rent movies that seem worthwhile or of interest to me, so I can watch them in the comfort of my home, but, more often than not, they are a tragic waste of the two or so dollars!

Thus endeth the rant! ;)

Movies theaters are my church, my library, my place of fantasy and amazement. I grew up watching movies. I grew up in the shadows a drive in. I have been to premiers and empty screenings. I've seen the mid night specials and the early morning matineees. I have hit eight movies in one day in eight different theatres just to prove it could be done. Ive even been in the projection room once or twice. I saw the entire back to the future back to back to back. I saw The Last Temptation of Christ as picketers protested outside. I have seen every theater i grew up fall to the megaplex and yet I still keep going. You ask why and I tell you it is because you can tear down my church and as long as there is a film to be watched and a group of people who know what it felt like to sit in a theater or a drive in, and watch as the curtains drew open or the the speaker got hung on the window, and they ate their hot dog and their popcorn and had a drink with friend and or family alike, anyone who ever sat in the front row to get that larger than life feeling, or in the back row to get that special time with the one they cared for, anyone who stood in line for the popular show, or stayed up late to see the first showing of a movie or perhaps a cult movie like Rocky Horror, these are my brethren and members of the church of celluloid and light. I go to be with them, to see the film the way it was intended to be seen, in a darkened room, with a large screen, and alot of strngers who share my enthusiasm for movies. That is why I still go to the theaters and why I taught as many as I could to enjoy movie theaters the way I do. Oh, and I wonder how many movie goers know what all they missed before Star Wars and Surround Sound and Multiplexes. I wonder if losing the curtains and the drive ins and balconies and cushy seats and the guys walkingin with their flash lights still wearing those silly hats has some how left new generations cheated, but then I go with that new generation and they are overjoyed with what is there, so I know the fun is still there. That is why I still go as often as I do. It is my church, my fun, my place of wonder and amusement. If you go I may see you there. Enjoy.

I like it because its something new. I always like seeing and trying new things. Not to mention I can get my cookie dough bites! Yummy!

Because movies contain magic. They can transport you to somewhere else for two hours. No other art form can do that. Books come close, but you stop and start when you read, whereas watching a movie is uninterrupted. Plus, with movies you can run through the whole gamut of emotions.
