Creates drama... The helpless person gets killed by the bad guy while on their back and unable to defend themselves. It plays on the whole "this guy is evil and these people are the vitcims".
More confusing question, when someone breaks into a house in a movie and there is a clear exit outside of the house, why do they always run UPSTAIRS? LOL

cause they are always looking back to make sure the killer is not behind them, then they trip, and they take like 15 minutes to get up, cause they crawl for a little bit, then they stumble while getting up, I have never had that hard of a time standing up, then again i have never been chased naked through the woods by a hockey mask wearing machette weilding killer
