Do you like the movie This Is England 2006 and why?!

Question: I thought the film was excellent for many different reasons.

I think firstly because it is based on the Director Shane Meadows own experiences, I was 17 in 1983 and remember many of the things he portrayed thro the film.

I think it is classic how he brought it onto the screen without the polished aesthetics and I liked the rawness style that I have not seen in films since Scum & Made In Britain.

It is a view through the British working-class life dealing with the bitterness of outside influences such as racism and mass unemployment, and of course we had the Falkland's War;

It showed a great understanding of the allure of being part of a gang with the violence and masculine side of life.

All in all I thought it was a very powerful portayal of a young loner boy who found new friendship with a friendly skinhead gang and found parties & girls and a different way of dessing, to then enter the more uncomfortable territory with the "true" older skinheads.

It was quite a trip down memory lane. I used to be a skinhead, but not a racist one, I might hasten to add. The film was good but the ending a little of a let down.

I was about 13 at the time the film was set and it brought back a lot of memories. For instance the scene where he was riding a Raliegh Grifter made me laugh and think how they were prone to the gear changing chain snapping.

i only watched it coz we know joe gilligun who starred in it, but i thought it was good, although didnt rate the ended, thought it just left stuff open and didnt explain alot of things and what happend to the rest of the gang etc

I loved This Is England. It's so refreshing to see movies about non-racist Skinhead movements, because that's how the Skinhead movement started out.

Little Thomas Turgoose was excellent in the leading role -- he is so funny!! So many of his lines had me laughing until my sides hurt!

I thought it addressed a lot of important social issues too -- i.e. the importance of fathers and male role models, problems with Margaret Thatcher, and the Falklands War which is applicable today with the war in Iraq.

I personally loved the ending...when Shaun stared into the camera like that and then it cut to the credits...gave me goosebumps! Loved it!
