it has been said that whatever attacks earth won't be from space no one knows what is in the ocean and that was the weak sister ocean if it was the Pacific we would have called in the Brits it was a sea monster like the one from 20000 fathoms under the sea from way back when
Even the movie won't tell you what it is. The monster isn't the point of the film. The point of the film is the people. The actions and emotions that these ordinary people go through when put into a larger than life situation. The average joe isn't going to know what is going on or where the monster came from in an event like that. It's a great film, but it's more about people than a "wicked cool monster smashing things." You will see lots of footage which shows the monster but you will never know what it is. Below is a brief description.
The monster is huge, it moves on all fours, it has a tail, and it drops little parasitic creatures from its body. It looks completely unique from previous movie monsters. dtewsacrificial is right, the only name given to the monster the whole movie is in a statement by one of the characters that it's "a terrible thing."
i just got home from seeing it and all i can say is its a giant lizard like thing with sharp teeth or somethin like that. got 2 legs 2 big arms and 2 litlle arms, a tail and a horny back. and it releases little monster things out from it. but in other words...a terrible thing
