oh yes all the time. That is the joy of watching some movies or reading books. You get to relate to the characters.
Any good writer wants to draw people in to the movie, tv show or book.

Yer, all the time. That's exactly how most writer's want you to feel, to have connection with the character. What's the point of having a character that no one can relate to, no one's exactly going to like them and therefore the movie will probably be a major dud.
