Is the Spiderwick Chronicles (movie) too scary for 6 year olds?!
Question: My daughter recently saw a trailer for the "Spiderwick Chronicles" movie and has rather settled on it as the movie to see for the theatre birthday party we've planned. Even if you've read the books, I know that kids in her class love Harry Potter. How much scarier do you think this movie is than say the early Harry Potter movies? Is it in now way suitable for kids under a certain age? Would you allow your six year old to see this movei?

I think they would be fine. If she has seen harry potter then I think she and her friends could handle this. Yes I would let my six year watch the movie.
I think it would be fine, its all up to you when my daughter was 3 i let her what children of the corn she loved it, if they get scared you need to explain that they arent real..
The ratings are not a perfect guide because kids vary so much in their maturity rates. The guideline I go by is that PG movies are for 7 and up - when you look at the ratings description the things I worry about the most from a PG movie are the profanity and older themes. Looking at the description of the Spiderwick Chronicles it seems the reason for the rating is violence.
The big question is what about the children she wishes to invite to the party? I just had a small G rated movie party for my son and it was the right way for us to go considering the children invited. The movie choice was a complete non-issue and I didn't have to field a bunch of questions. (A huge bonus in my mind.)
To directly answer your question, no I would not have allowed my son to attend - mean old mom that I am.
