chairman seen her when she was a child,but he got attracted to her beautiful eyes,he thought she was a unique child. and liked her very much,but when he saw her later then he recognised her and loves her.

he fell in love with her after she started going to the parties when she became a geisha. he had liked her a a child. but not like that... his intrest was just renewed in a more loving way when she was older and became a geisha
It is wierd. but you gotta think that some societies in those times had arrangements of very young people becoming engaged. Maybe it was compassion when they first met on the bridge and it turned to love as she became a woman.

Honestly when he met her when she was a little girl he knew something was good about her. Then I believe over the years he watched her grow up into a lovely lady. I think he really realized he loved her at the sumo match. But he was afraid to express it fearing what other people would say since he already had a geisha.
