Simply put, these are locations that offer additional features that standard locations do not. It is a little bit of marketing, a little bit of truth. Here is an example from the AMC brochure advertising one such theater:
The Premium Cinema Auditorium is a first class venue with plush ultra-leather seats and tray tables to hold your complimentary popcorn and soft drinks. The seating is stadium style so sight lines are perfect. The auditorium also features a THX-certified sound system that provides both perfect clarity and power for those Hollywood blockbuster special effects.
Your second question, Special Engagements, is when an AMC Theatre or a group of theatres are rented out for a special event for a company or the public. Last year, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers did a global broadcast to a large swath of theatres in broadcasting a concert to many locations they did not plan to visit. This year there is a special Hannah Montana movie (a recording of a concert) that will broadcast a few times at select theatres, giving a lot of people the chance to see her who either could not get tickets or afford it (the tickets are much cheaper to watch a taped show in a theatre). It is a way to utlize the theatres at higher rates during times when they may otherwise not be used at all.
