The first remake of the paranoid infiltration classic moves the setting for the invasion from a small town to the city of San Fransisco and starts as Matthew Bennell notices that several of his friends are complaining that their close relatives are in some way different. When questioned later they themselves seem changed as they deny everything or make lame excuses. As the invaders increase in number they become more open and Bennell, who has by now witnessed an attempted "replacement" realises that he and his friends must escape or suffer the same fate. But who can he trust to help him and who has already been snatched?

While the remake is quite good, I still prefer the original 1956 version starring Kevin McCarthy and Dana Wynter, which is a b&w film. In that one, they don't have them making that sound; an element added in the color remake. The story has been filmed four times: two titled "Invasion of the Body Snatchers; one titled "Body Snatchers" (1993), starring Billy Wirth, Gabrielle Anwar and Meg Tilly; and the recent "The Invasion" (2007), starring Nicole Kidman. All are based on Jack Finney's novel "Body Snatchers" aka "Invasion of the Body Snatchers".
NOTE: Actually, it's merely lack of emotion they're showing, not zombieish shuffling. They are functional human beings, just minus emotions.

It was the late 70's or early 80's version of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". They were aliens, not zombies.
