The movie was completely different than I was expecting, but I found it to be very good and addressed several deep issues that people in general have to learn to cope with.

very depressing

I wasn't shocked, I read the book before watching the movie. It was my friends who were shocked as they don't read. The movie was pretty much what I had expected and I was glad that it followed the book, but even though I knew it was coming I was saddened that she (leslie) died.

I read this book years ago for school, so was interested to see how it translated into a movie. I thought the kids who played Jessie and Leslie were outstanding, and I like the way that the movie was not so focused on the special effects for Terabithia, but actually dealt with the books central themes. Yes, it is depressing when Leslie dies, but thank God they didn't rewrite it just so they could make it a 'happy ending' film.
I haven't seen it that many times, but really enjoyed it.

I have some quibbles with the film, but the end made up for it. It was sold as a fantasy film, and it's true that that was a big cheat. I wasn't certain what to expect actually, so I watched it without much of a preconceived notion.

My main problem is that the boy and girl are far too old to act so childishly. If they had made them younger, it might have worked better. At their age, it was quite foolish of them to romp around pretending and supposedly believing these things. Without me saying anything, my mom said, "Kids that age wouldn't act like that" in a very scornful tone. That's when I told her that I completely agree with her.

All in all, it's a touching film but with some stereotypical behavior. Actually, I thought the bridge, crowns and other decorations were better in their natural state, not covered with metal and jewels. I liked the wood and flowers better because it reminds me of the Renaissance faires and other events I attend. Maybe the kids will create an event there!

I haven't read the book, but I'm truly not inclined to. If I could read it for free, perhaps I would.
