Question: Just seen this film again and was again amazed by the terrific performance by the young boy actor.Haley Joel Osment
I believe he was nominated for an oscar, but did not win it (for best supporting actor).
This was in 1999/2000. Does anyone know who won the oscar that year, and beat this great perfomance?
I have checked out the usual sites, the film, the oscars, but cannot find the answer.

No he was nominated for oscar but it went to Micheal Cain (you were only suppose to blow the bloody doors off)for Cider House Rules.

And here is why you are wrong this time:
Haley Joel Osment WAS nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in 2000, for "The Sixth Sense" (1999).
As someone else mentioned, he lost to Michael Caine, who was nominated for his role in "The Cider House Rules" (1999).
But Osment remains one of the youngest actors to ever be nominated for an Academy Award. In 2006, he was involved in a drug and alcohol related car accident, but he is now expecting the release of 2 new movies, "Home of the Giants" (2007/2008) and "Truth and Treason" (2008). He has also been doing a lot of voice work for video games.
Benicio Del Toro in "Traffic" - took the Best supporting actor oscar in 2000, Osment was not even nominated.
HJO will shortly be shooting a film called "Truth and Treason"
