If you read the article, it looks to me like they bought the puppies from a deadbeat puppy farmer, who sold the puppies claiming to be older and in better health than they actually were, such that despite the filming crew's best efforts (and based on the explanations of how they filmed every scene, it sounds like they did things all with the puppies welfare in mind, such as not actually throwing a snowball at the puppy's face, but using camera tricks instead despite how much more that cost them) some of the puppies developed serious illnesses which, regardless of setting, can be lethal when not caught early enough. If the breeder had sold them later once they were old enough, and immunized and healthy enough, none of this would have happened. Hopefully the Humane Society rains fiery hell down on the backyard puppy mill that sold off these dogs at too young of an age.

Thanks

It sounds like that was an unfortunate epidemic, but it also sounds like, if you read further on the page, any and all stunts were carefully planned out, and I dont think that they meant to harm anyone or animal.

And, dont worry. I'm not going to buy or rent it. It looks kinda dumb.

all for a movie. how disgusting people are just to make a quick buck! maybe we need more severe punishments for puppy mills.

I have the movie, and if you had actually red the whole article, other then just the part bout the sick puppies, then you would know that it was not through fault of how the puppies were used on set that made tehm sick. It was through fault of the breeder. If the breeder, who probably owned a puppy mill, and bred the dogs for quanity, not quality. The owner probably didn't care about the dogs, only about making money, and when he found out the studio want a load of puppies, he packed them up in a crate, no matter how old they were and shipped them out.
