It's a really weird looking monster. It has the body of a dinosaur with these red pockets on the side of the face that when it breathes makes the head look like a clover. You do get to see the monster up close and also from a distance. The movie was good, it just made me feel like I had motion sickness.
Its an alien.
Did you notice at the end when they were on the train on the road to coney island, a big splash appears in the water behind them, 2 weeks before it attacked.

That movie was a horrible waste of time and money.
According to the creators of the move the creature is actually a newborn and is suffering from separation anxiety. It attacked New York as a fear response. One of the conceptual designers stated. "It's like a circus elephant that has snapped. There's nothing scarier than something that is huge and spooked."
