The Wikipedia site for this film even has a picture of one of the "sliicates", which seem to haunt a lot of people, as I've seen this question crop up quite often in the few months since my arrival in Y!A. I'd love to see this film again, as it's been at least 30+ years since I last saw it.
I can only think of Ninja Turtles.
