What is the name of the movie in the early 80s about a little alien boy who visi!

Question: The alien boy doesn't speak. I believe the actor had some form of dwarfism. The boy seems to have supernatural abilities. The fact that the boy is an alien is left unanswered, but highly suggested. The boy befriends an old man, who I picture as Wilford Brimley, but I don't believe it was him. I don't remember a lot about the film, but I believe the boy shows up suddenly and the people don't know where he came from. He leaves at the end of the film with the suggestion that he is returning to space. I remember this film on HBO in the early 80s.

The Aurora Encounter (1986)
starring Jack Elam, Mickey Hays (only film appearance), Peter Brown, Carol Bagda(r)sarian, Dottie West, Charles B. Pierce, George "Spanky" McFarland (Little Rascals/Our Gang shorts~~his final film)
IMDB synopsis:
A tiny alien (Hays) lands in the small town of Aurora, Texas, in the early 1900s. He flies around in his spaceship and checks out everything. While the youngsters are fascinated, their parents are rather skeptical and fearful. The town's schoolteacher, who also is the new owner of the local paper, smells a good story and brings the alien into the headlines. When the governor hears of the rumors, he sends a ranger to take action.

Here is an IMDB review, which verifies your belief that this is supposedly based on an actual event:
In the small Texas town of Aurora in the early 20th century, a tiny man seemingly fell out of the sky. This sets the tone for the first legitimately recorded UFO encounter in the United States. This all is supposedly based on a true story. It seems that the little man literally flew around in a small craft and was sent to this planet for some unknown reason. The children are entranced by him, the townspeople are a little frightened, and the fright ultimately will lead to a tragedy as misunderstanding and prejudice come into play. Hayes, unable to speak and harmless, meets old hermit Jack Elam, also somewhat an outcast in the small community, as all this transpires; they start a genuinely wonderful friendship as the two apparent opposites seem to have so much in common. ... Elam, doing probably the best work of his long career, ultimately gets somewhat wasted ... The movie just never really found an audience when released in 1986 and became a very small footnote from the decade. If nothing else though, "The Aurora Encounter" should be watched for the scenes where Elam and Hayes are together playing checkers. {slightly edited}

Mickey Hays had the disease Progeria, an extremely rare genetic disease of childhood characterized by dramatic, premature aging. He was only 20 years old when he died. This is his sole film he ever worked on, and his obvious kindness and the sympathy the audience feels for him is definitely undeniable.

E.T?

is it Mac & Me?

was the boy in a wheelchair?

Koi Mil Gaya - Ritik Roshan was the leading hero.

Ok, here is the closest thing I can come up with, hoping that it actually WAS Wilford Brimley:

It Couldn't be an Ewoks movie, could it?
