Before he turned to the darkside he and Padme fell in love (which was forbidden for a Jedi) and had twins....Luke & Leia.

In the second movie, Aniken Skywalker (an insanely powerfull Jedi) and Queen Padme Amidalla fell in love and got secretly married. In the third movie, Aniken become mad with power while trying to save Padme from dying in childbirth, broke his wife's heart in the process and she ended up dying after having twins. Aniken fell into lava and burnt his flesh off, which is why he's always in that suit. He became Darth Vader.
Obi Wan split up the children and gave them to two adopting families, one was farmers (Lukes family) and one was royalty (Leia's).
