it means.. its hard for mcclane to die. you can see from all the die hard movies, with all the shooting, explosion and near death experiences, mcclane never dies

It's about how hard it is for the "bad" people to kill Bruce Willis off. Basically, if he is going to die they will have to kill him the hard way.

something that "dies hard" is something that does not die or go away easily. like willis'character in the film. he will not die nor will he give up and go away. hence the title DIE HARD and thats how it relates to him fighting terrorists.

In this way it describes John MCClane because even after he has been beaten to a pulp, stepped through glass, been blown up and even shot, he will always come back and save the day in the most extreme way possible.
