What did you think of the new version Charlie & The Chocolate Factory?!

Question: I refuse to watch it!
A movie that is still enjoyed by generation after generation must have got it right the first time. There is no need for a remake in this case.

By the way I think Johnny Depp is a magnificent actor.

I thought it was pretty good. The factory was awesome! I just wanted to eat everything! But I might have liked the old version better, even though I can barely remember it! But overall, it was pretty good.

i loved it, johnny depp can play many diverse roles.

I thought it was good, a little creepy but good. The old one was better though.

The prologue (ie all the stuff before the factory) was great. I loved hearing Geoffrey Holder narrating (he of Annie, Doctor Dolittle etc). And that part captured a few interesting bits of Roald Dahl's book.

But once they got in the factory, it went rapidly downhill. It totally lacked imagination, in my opinion. I didn't think a great deal of Depp as Wonka.

The 1971 version (I know, I know, but comparisons are inevitable) was at its best in the factory scenes. The ensemble acting (Wilder, the parents, the kids) was perfect, and the whole thing was imaginative and witty.

A lot of people didn't like it, but I love Burton's vision on the factory. Maybe Johnny Deep's image was a little bit over-done, but the songs were better and I'm so happy that the poor and hungry Charlie is not a blond anglo-saxon looking guy any more.

love the music
kids love it
family friendly
creative
unique
cute
high quality
classic

i hate the oompa loompas.
in the older version even moreee

but johnny depp makes it so much better ;) ;)

I thought it was great. I don't think it is fair to compare Tim Burton's version with the 1971 version.

Roald Dahl himself hated the first version and his wife thought that he would be very pleased with the new one.

Special effects have changed so much in the past 30 years that comparing them seems wrong.

The songs in Burton's version used the words from Dahl's book and the "bad children" ended up like they did in the book. Also, I think Depp portrayed more like he was written. After all, in the book, Wonka was an eccentric and a recluse. He acted very strange.

I also thought Burton did very well in putting a father for Wonka in his movie. Even though it wasn't part of Dahl's book, it gives you one idea as to why Wonka became the person he did.

cool i like the part when they all get trapped in a machine and get attack my squirrels

it was done to the last detail,I thought they did a good job!

I never saw it.

To me, the original was the best and I didn't want to see another version that would ruin the original for me.

Johnny Depp is a fine actor...but Gene Wilder fit the part of Willy Wonka SO much better. That part was made for him.

EMT

It was different. I liked the original with Gene Wilder but learned that the new one with Johnny Depp actually followed the book whereas the the one with Gene wilder did not.
But i liked the one with Johnny Depp as well.
