Well I love horror movies also. I think some of the original classics like Night of the Living Dead are better than the newer ones, just because for their time was really scary. That is my all time favorite horror movie (even though it's not scary at all). Now on to the newer ones...I think all the ones made back in the late 70's and 80's were just plain out cheesy and not good. Like Amityville and Friday 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street..they blew. Now the up to date more recent ones are much better, but some just go too far and are so gory that they become stupid...like all the Saw movies. The first one was ok, but none of the others. Some just try to be too gory and bloody and just lose the purpose of being a horror movie. I like the mental thrillers...it's fine that they have blood and gore..I do like that..but just not to the point that that's all there is. It must have some sort of plot and must be realistic in some way. Now I know zombies are not real...but absolutely hands down are the best movies in my opinion. Love all zombie movies! I just watched the remake of Day of the Dead due to come out this spring online...Loved it! My favorite new movie would have to be 28 days later...it was different with just enough gore and a great story line, plus zombie like people in it, can't beat that. I also love the Resident Evil movies.

old. cuz they look sooo fake and you just laugh!

I dont think the old films are scary..they were scary bk then but now days i think all the films arent that good really i mean its being stabbin people or choppin fingers off etc and its not really that scary...

older ones are better, most new horror films are more concerned with sex than horror. classics like psycho, the shining, the birds rule the horror world. the only modern film that actually made me afraid was the descent

Plan 9 from outer space. I love this movie!

The older films, I think, are most definately better - it's just the special effects that have improved over time. The best horror films are the older ones as they have better storylines rather than just blood and guts.

Depends cause now they make gruesome movies that arent't even scary

i think it's new or old

newer pnes have better specialist affects
but older ones seem to be scarier they go back to basics and dont have the added extras.

watched that amytville 2 last night that was good,

but scariest are ones based on true stories like blair witch as they actually happend.

halloween series are more funny than scary but enjoyable

A lot of the new "horror" movies are closer to suspense thrillers than to actual horror movies.

I did not really like the old Friday the 13th movies and Nightmare on Elm Street Movies, because with slasher films, once you see one the rest are kind of the same. But most of the ghost and demon horror movies were better in the 80s than they are today.

new movies are a lot better b/c they have the better special effects and are more realistic..

one older movie i recently watched was a nightmare on elm street.

and a good new movie is when a stranger calls.

yes 100% better why b/c they have a good story to them the new horror don't have this to it all new horror is teens going about getting cut up is that really horror movie nope the old is way better i have a lot of old horror movies on dvd

new

I love the old ones and the best horror movie that I saw was The Mist the end was really horrifying.

Well, it depends on what you mean by "older".

But, I think for the most part, the story lines of today's horror films are a little more sophisicated and the special effects have certainly come a long way bringing a realism that helps draw a person into the movie experience.

Some of my "recent" favorites include 'The exorcism of Emily Rose', The 'Saw' series, 'The Descent', 'Dead End' (which had some black comedy), 'Halloween 2007', The Reaping, and 1408. I also enjoyed all 'Body Snatcher' movies (including the original black and white version) the third remake being titled 'The Invasion'.
