Nothing ever beats an original but the newer one was much creepier. In the original everything was in his head and u didn't really get to see what he was seeing. In the remake they let the viewer see what the main character was seeing. I think Ryan Reynolds did a good job in this film. Again, nothing tops an original but this movie definitely produced a scare.

Amityville Horror is one of those movies that didn't need a remake but got one anyway. The original was best (I saw it at the drive-in many years ago).
The remake took a movie that scared the crap out of many people and turned it into a joke. As for the truth about the story, there is a lot of debate about that. To this day, no one has been able to prove beyond any doubt that the house was truly haunted.
