Answers: if so when?

They are making a remake, not sure if it's coming out this year or not.. I would expect it to be next year though. What I do know is that's not near the point of having a trailer yet.

I won't be seeing it, even though I'm a huge fan of the series and of Horror in general.

The remake trend has gotten way way out of hand. Texas Chainsaw Massacre.... Dawn of The Dead.. Amityville horror.... Halloween and so on and so forth... I'm left wondering if that trend will ever end.

It's to the point of being annoying, as not one has been superior to the original and it's painful to think that Hollywood can't think of new ideas anymore.

I was unlikely to see the remake even before finding out that Robert Englund won't be playing Freddy... now the chances of me seeing it are nonexistent.

Edit:

Forgot to mention the equally annoying trend of taking quality Asian movies like Ring, Ju-On, (The Grudge) Dark Water and The Eye and turning them into vastly inferior American made remakes

It's unfortunate that it's come to this

In relation to the guy below, I'm 100 percent correct in what I put.

The prequel which was thought to be named something along the lines of "The Elm Street Murders" has also been canceled right along with the talk of a direct sequel. Believe me I didn't mind the idea of a prequel so much.. however....

It is indeed a remake now and the following links support as much

Rumor has it that they are re-making all the old classics. they re-made tcsm and halloween why not make them all

That would be pretty cool.

first of all none of these people are correct.

A few years ago there came word of a new Nightmare on Elm Street and possible a Freddy Vs Jason 2

but since then New Line Cinema has announced it canceled plans for both.

However about 2 months ago, a cinsescape.com article pointed at a new Nightmare on Elm Street, that might be a preqeul.

Its supposed to be going deeper into Freddy's prior life.

Sadely Robert England will not be playing Freddy this time.

Actually "Colt" was correct. They are making a remake of Nightmare on Elm St but as far as I know it won't be coming out this year. You can actually read a little about it on shocktillyoudrop.com. It's more or less a reboot of the franchise, and they're doing the same thing with Friday the 13th. No trailers for it yet though
