His main struggle is between discipline (he acts arrogant a lot), music (the band director insists on playing music from decades ago so they always lose band competitions), and place in society (he's a freshman in love with a girl thats older and the captain of the dance team, he and the head of the band get in arguments a lot about where he stands).
