Answers: For those who don't remember, the nominees are:

Cate Blanchett -- Elizabeth: The Golden Age

Julie Christie -- Away from Her

Marion Cotillard -- La Vie En Rose

Laura Linney -- The Savages

Ellen Page -- Juno

- Julie Christie's performance is really great, plus she is kind of a "comeback" story after a long lustrious Hollywood career. She has won many of the awards so far this season therefore is the obvious frontrunner.
- Cate Blanchett is an amazing actress but she has the lowest chance of winning this category (she has a much better chance, and I think she will, to win for Supporting Actress for "I'm Not There"). Her role was just a continuation of her role from the first Elizabeth film which was much better than this sequel. She was good of course (she always is) but not as great as others.
- Marion Cotillard gave the best female performance of the year for La Vie en Rose. She is absolutely amazing and completely becomes the character. Having said that, she probably wont win because its a foreign film and that decreases her chances greatly (although Roberto Beigni did win Best Actor for "La Vita è bella in 1998, I doubt it will happen again).
- Laura Linney is one of the best actresses in the biz today, but for some reason she is tremendously overlooked constantly. She wont win for this overlooked film either, but before her career is over she will have won one or two.
- Ellen Page is the public favorite (mainly because its the ONLY one of these movies most have seen), but she has a slim chance of winning becuase its not a typical "Oscar" movie. Sure its nominated a lot (it probably shouldnt have received Best Picture or Best Director noms) but it is not the Oscar caliber type movie that wins. Every year one of these type movies (indie comedies) is nominated (Sideways, Little Miss Sunshine, Truman Show, etc.) but hardly ever win and if they do its just for screenplay (which I think Juno will probably win as well). But as for the acting, as good as it is, its not on par with the other performances nominated. Having said all of that, I did Love Juno, so dont think I am hating on it.

In conclusion, I think Julie Christie will win for "Away From Her." She has already won many of the awards and that always helps to raise favor in Oscar voting. Her role is exactly the type that gets award buzz and they love giving it to those who play characters with disease or handicap. And she was great in it, so the award would be well justified and deserved.
