I saw the trailer for it last Thursday, so it looks very much like they will release the film.

The film finished principle photography. There is enough to release. Normally, they would do a lot of extra voice work, getting the lines just so. It's called "looping", and it can't be done in this case--at least, not with Heath Ledger. In some cases, other people have been asked to loop for an actor who either could not or would not do the additional sound recording. It is possible that a voice double will be used, or perhaps, they may not bother with looping that part.

There is a very large tradition of releasing films after an actor has passed away. Clark Gable had a massive heart attack the day after he finished filming The Misfits, and died less than two weeks later. (He joked that working with Marilyn Monroe nearly gave him a heart attack; the next day, he had one.) Richard Harris died before Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets was released. In both cases, the actor had finished filming his role, and was included in the film. These are but two of many, many examples.

Most likely, there will be a credit at the end of the film, saying "This film is dedicated to the memory of Heath Ledger" or "For Heath" or something like that. That is how it is typically done.

As was mentioned, the producers are worrying about how to market the film. They don't want to appear to be cashing in on tragedy. They had a campaign underway to promote Heath Ledger as The Joker, including a poster with him in the make-up for The Joker with the phrase, "Why so serious?" They are now trying to play up the character of Batman more.

Heath had started work on another film, and no less than three actors will play his character. No one has yet figured out how that will work out, but at least, that's what the publicists are saying.

absolutely not, in fact the movie will now probably be released in his honor. But what is happening is that the marketing team is slowly shying away from the joker and marketing Batman more from now on. But the movie is still completely on.

I don't know if it got canceled, but I know the actor who was going to play as joker died.

you really think that Hollywood would throw away tens - if not hundreds - of millions of dollars out of respect? AAAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!

yeah, ok.

No, the movie is already done with. Heath L. did his part. I don't think they would cancel it, to cancel it would be mean, because that was the last movie he acted in.

They'll release most likely.

Filming has finished luckily.

Nope...the dark knight will still be released.

No way is that gonna happen. I mean if that was to happen because other people have died before Heath and I have never heard of that before.
