Who feels the oscars nowadays are poinless?!

Question: films nowadays are just plain stupid and they add all these dumb awards, The Oscars now is a showcase for fashion and popcorn movies.

we got no good actors
movies are badly written
no good directors

winning the Oscars is no honor now. back in the 80s and before there were good films and actors that deserved Oscars, now everything is blatant, and it's like ppl don't even care anymore if it's blatant.

I try to avoid watching the oscars whenever it is on because it is awards that no one cares about................OSCARS ARE THE DUMBEST AWARDS TO GET!!!!

everyone they are pointless

I'm not going to argue that there are too many awards and that things are way overhyped. Nobody in their right mind would argue that. But...

This was a great year for films and the movies nominated for Best Picture reflect that. Smart, exciting, gripping stuff that really captivates (especially No Country for Old Men, I think).

And while those actors you mention were certainly great, there are a great group of actors out there today....Daniel Day-Lewis certainly proves that in There Will Be Blood and just a few names to add to that are Johnny Depp, Phillip Seymore Hoffman, Cate Blanchett, and Terrance Howard. Honestly, I could go on forever with that.

Are there bad actors and poorly written films? Absolutely. But those things were around in the seventies, too. Time just has a way of allowing us to remember the good stuff. In thirty years, I won't be thinking about Fool's Gold or Norbit -- I'll be remembering the year that Juno and No Country for Old Men came out.

I'll watch the Oscars tonight...they'll likely annoy me with picks I disagree with, but it'll still be fun to remember the good stuff that came out this year and get an idea of what I missed that I really ought to see.

I'm finding it amusing that you think Roger Moore is some great actor compared to the likes of this year's nominees Daniel Day Lewis and Tommy Lee Jones. Seriously, you crack me up.
The way I see it there are just as many good films, actors, actresses and directors now as in the 'good old days'. How can you say there's no decent writing any more? Have you watched any of the nominated films this year? The 3 I've seen all had brilliant scripts and from the clips I've seen of the other 2, they have too.

None of the films nominated could be classed as popcorn movies with the possible exception of 'Juno' which, ok, was more on the light side than many nommed movies but was still well written and acted.

In conclusion, you speak nonsense!
