What is Stanley Kubrick`s Best Film?!

Question: I was afraid to see `Eyes Wide Shut` for years because it augered the death of the director if not in fact contributing to it. Or perhaps this was a practical joke and part of the film`s menacing premise.

I did see it recently at the current Barbican Kubrick retrospective.

It isn`t as nasty as Auschwitz but is the only film I have ever seen which incorporates something of de Sade into the Hitler menace. The concentration camps were supposed to have had these sacrificial orgies which were not unlike the Roman games.

This film is typical of Kubrick. It is frontal and it is hard. The film with its melodies of Weill suggest a New York City corollary with Berlin or Vienna of the Third Reich. Jews no longer bond with Jews, causing much hardship to their poorer relatives. The scene where Tom Cruise brings the cake actually takes the cake.

Tom Cruise was absolutely brilliant. I have been wrong all along about this guy.

RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE. Eyes wide shut? come on people. Pails in comparison to sooo many films: clockwork,2001,lolita, full metal.dr.strangelove...ect. And finally, and my last point: the man directed Sparticus. So, in answer to your question, the movie I enjoy best by him is probably clockwork orange. Though, barry london with its by-candle-light filming is actually really cool. But please, eyes wide shut, thats almost an insult. As for his pre-sparticus films, I have never seen them, but no one is perfect, if I had the cash I would get a "kubrick collection" that would be the hot move. As for why I disagree: eyes wide shut is totally a kubrick film yeah, but it's just not his best work as a writer or director nor did it create the controversy of other films (hello, lolita was banned places). I think in terms of what a movie can mean and breaking what film was, his other films do more-so. Can you remember the first time you saw clockwork orange? man, that is SICK. It's like a strange look at what society is.

I liked Spartacus and Barry Lyndon & Paths of Glory.

the killing

# 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

# Lolita (1962)

# Spartacus (1960)

# A Clockwork Orange (1971)

Dr.Strangelove or How I learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. To me this is the best film of his. You have to go and see it if you haven't already.

2001 is actually amazing if you see it on a huge panoramic screen at the cinema. If you see it on TV it completely loses its impact. (It wasnt made to be shown on TV but in the cinema!
I was awestruck when i saw it. Try the 50 foot screen sometime.
ps I forgot Spartacus which is a rip snorter!

A Clockwork Orange

BY FAR...."A clockwork Orange"....cult classic.

i think full metal jacket is one of the greatest anti-war films ever made.

Can't see past "The Shining" myself

Think almost all his films are essential viewing

Paths of Glory
2001
Dr Strangelove
Clockwork Orange etc etc

"Paths of Glory"

His best picture is probably "Dr. Strangelove Or : How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb"(1964).

In order :
1.Dr. Strangelove
2.Paths Of Glory
3.Spartacus
4.Full Metal Jacket
5.The Shining

a clockwork orange

I'd go with "Eyes Wide Shut" - I've never rated 2001 A Space Oddity.
