What's the movie where the American guy goes to Japan to learn as much as he!

Question: I know it's from the 80's.

Answers: I know it's from the 80's.

"Gung Ho" isn't about that. The Japanese come to America; the Americans don't go to Japan. I believe there is a takeover of the U.S. plant, isn't there? They're going to decide whether to keep it open or not.

Gung Ho (1986)
starring Michael Keaton, Gedde Watanabe (of "Sixteen Candles"), George Wendt, Mimi Rogers, John Turturro, Sab Shimono, Clint Howard, Michelle Johnson
IMDB synopsis:
Hunt Stevenson (Keaton) works for a large car manufacturer that has just been bought out by a Japanese firm. Suddenly finding himself having to justify his own job, he's forced to choose between redundancy or the seemingly inhuman Japanese work ethic that the new owners have brought with them.

I'll look around to see if there is a movie with the opposite situation. I recall there's one with an American player joining a Japanese team. So, maybe there's one that fits what you describe. // I looked at a number of titles, but nothing fits yet. I'll check back to see if you've added any details.

That's Michael Keaton in Working Class Man. Pretty sure...yep...it is...also known as Gung Ho.
