Tilda Swinton......WTF?!?!

Question: Did anyone predict that one for your Oscar Pool?

Amy Ryan won all the early critics awards; then Cate Blanchett won the Golden Globe, Ruby Dee won the SAG - and then from out of left field....

Tilda Swinton?!?

I'm still scratching my movie-lovers head over that one. Anyone got any explanations for that upset?

I predicted it, and I won an office pool because of it!

In the weeks leading up the Oscars, "Michael Clayton" caught fire. Voters wanted to honor the film, but couldn't really do it in other categories. (They were voting for Daniel Day-Lewis, for example). Tilda Swinton was their chance to give "Clayton" an award, and they went for it.

Tilda Swinton is SO creepy and weird looking! What the hell was she wearing?! A death shroud or something?

Maybe it was out of pity because she is such an ugly red headed woman?

Paulo, did you see "Michael Clayton"? In the "confrontation" scene at the end, when she's literally trembling from stress and fear...she was awesome.
Regardless, you have to hand it to her for having the best acceptance speech of the night. That dig to Clooney about the nipple-riffic Batman suit was great.

The Academy membership are a sloppy, sentimental lot and perhaps felt "uncomfortable" with either Cate or Ruby, even though they gave stunning performances.

I had Ruby

She's a talented actress, so her winning isn't all that amazing. The dress she was wearing, on the other hand, was truly inexplicable:

Tilda Swinton looked like she was still playing the witch in the first Narnia film.

I was not expecting it. I thought Cate Blanchett would win, although I wanted the little girl from Atonement to get the Oscar. But Tilda Swinton did a good job in Michael Clayton, It's sad that this is the only award the movie got. But I don't think she winning was an upset.

Did you actually watch Michael Clayton? Throughout the whole movie her gradually descends into becoming a nervous wreck...Subtlety is one of the most difficult things to pull off as an actor/actress and Swinton did so beautifully. Just because she wasn't playing a dude, a feisty old mother of a drug kingpin or a coked-out mom from Boston didn't mean that her performance was any less impressive than the other nominees. Good for her.

Personally I wish that people would refrain from using abbreviations in their questions because not everyone may be familiar with the ones you use.
