Who likes the Titanic movie? (1997)?!

Question: You're going to get a bunch of haters on here that will tell you that "it sucked" and "was the worst movie ever". But that is just backlash. Whenever anything gets too overplayed or overpopular, there is always going to be that group who irrationally hate it.

The fact of the matter is that the movie is one of the greatest, most ambitious films ever made. It made over a billion dollars world wide for a reason. It was a damn fine movie. I remember that I saw that movie on Christmas Eve 1997 with a friend of mine. He had to be at a 5:30 mass with his family, and the movie wasn't over until 5:40. At the beginning of the movie we joked, "Well, you don't need to see the last 10 minutes, we know how it ends. The boat sinks." Well, 3 hours later the lights came up at 5:40 and we both had tears welling up in our eyes. He got in a lot of trouble for missing mass, but to this day he says he doesn't regret it.

It was a great story told by a director in the prime of his career. The acting was superb. The special effects were amazing. Of course, there's that song, that damn Celine Dionne song. That song that perfectly captured the grand scope of the movie itself. And all of the memorable scenes toward the end. The old couple laying in bed together as the water begins to rush into their cabin. The mother reading a bedtime story to her children, knowing that they will all die. The ship steward taking his own life after shooting one of the passengers in a panic. And when the boat breaks in half and comes crashing down into the ocean.

And the very best line, as Jack and Rose cling to the back of the ship as it's being sucked down, she turns to him and says, "Jack! This is where we first met."

Great film. Deserves all of the accolades it has ever received. And those who want to say it sucks have no idea what a great piece of cinema is supposed to look like.
