Because it comes down to this, these days it's assumed that technology gives film makers the upper hand but no amount of digital touchups and special affects can replace great acting and just the right camera angles and whatnot. Some of the movies that scared **** out of me or made me laugh when I was a kid just can't be outdone as far as I'm conerned.

Well, it must the fact that the original movies you like are just too good.
They have raised the bar so high that anything not meeting your expectations, have just let you down.

Not to say that there are some great remakes out there...
but they are far and few between

One of my favorite remakes
Amityville Horror

Well my theory is that remakes don't do so well because people compare them to the original. Any differences in the movies and the remake is marks as a bust, not good, and needs to be burned. I personally love a lot of remakes, like for example Ocean's 11 and Gone in Sixty Seconds. I love the originals, but I like the remakes just the same. It is all persepective really.

I think because they always seem to remake films that were already successful. I think the studios are run by accountants who try to latch on to a formula that worked once rather than try to come up with something original and untested which is why there are so few good films anymore.

basically the industry is getting worse by the minute, but not to worry since indie movies are rising by the second.

It is almost impossible to improve perfection. If they had the right combo the first time, they will not be able to improve upon the original. I'm with you on the Star Wars thing. The last 3 were horrible. Seriously, I hated Jarjarbinks. He was annoying

Most times when they make a remake it's a classic and those tend to be once in a lifetime movies. The one that sticks the most for me was Psycho because it was redone shot for shot and just wasn't the same partly because the actors just weren't the same. The best remake for me was Ocean's 11 but it could have stopped there without Ocean's 12 and Ocean's 13.

Because you can't mess with the original.

Fave remake: Amityville Horror and the Hills Have Eyes

I agree basically with everything It's impossible to recreate an original Another director can only hope to do justice the original by remaking a movie that is well-done but not exactly a carbon copy I think you can remake a movie and update with reveant current themes and technology and have it be just as good

Usually when it is not the original writers, the new writers may not have the same vision on where the movie should go or have the same passion for the movie as the original writers.
