Here's a brief explanation as provided by London's Daily Mail

"He will be paid $25 million to shoot penultimate book Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, and the same amount for the movie of J.K. Rowling's Potter finale, The Deathly Hallows.

Of course, after taxes, commissions to lawyers, agents and managers, he won't see that much of the cash, but it at least allows him to explore and experiment with his acting.

The money's also a nod towards the fact that the studio can't do the next Harry Potters without him - plus an acknowledgement that the boy wizard tag could harm him in the future. "

The last part is very important. He is the face of the brand name. For at least 2 decades I don't think it would be realistic to look at him and not have Harry Potter jump immediately to mind. That may keep many directors and producers from hiring him. As an 18 year old, the next 20 years stand to be his prime earning years as an actor. The reason the amount is so much higher than the others is because the others can be replaced. Yes, fans are familiar with the current actors, but because of death, haven't secondary characters had an actor change before? Daniel IS Harry, Harry IS Daniel. His agents know it and J.K. Rowling knows it. They all got rich, so why spoil a good thing. The $50 million is a good faith gesture acknowledging this.

He has the title role. That's capitalism. Am I supposed to feel sorry for Emma and Rupert? I think they can "get by" on "only" $2.5M.

What would you think if someone else played Harry? Would you care that much if someone played one of the other 2?
He's worth it.

omg i watched that aswell, but he does other projects aswell, for example Equus (if that's how you spell it). But maybe he has more star appeal, just guessing...

He is the title character. When the others get their names plastered all over everything, then they'll make the same amount of money. Most people don't feel sorry for someone who makes *only* $2.5M.

He has the lead role. Of course he's going to get paid the most. It's his face on the movie books, posters, trailers, t-shirts, and whatever else. It's not "Ronald Weasley and the...", it's Harry Potter.

But I think 50 million is way too much for acting in a role he doesn't do particularly well, in my opinion.

And who's feeling sorry for Emma and Rupert with their 2.5 mill? Poor them, only 2.5 mill!
