Name of a classic movie...?!
Question: it's been bugging me all day about the name of a film.
I cannot remember who is in it, but the premise is during segregation in the US, a white woman meets a homeless black woman and her daughter at Coney Island and takes them in.
The little girl can pass for white and choses to appear this way to the public.
It ends in quite a sad way with the daughter denouncing her mother who later dies.
I believe the movie has been made twice over.

It's called Imitation of Life (based on a novel by Fannie Hurst) and was filmed twice, in 1934 with Claudette Colbert and Louise Beavers and in 1959 with Lana Turner and Juanita Moore. Curiously, the black mother and daughter constitute the subplot of the story, but they're the part everyone remembers.

Their relationships with their daughters, however, become strained. Ashamed of her mother, Peola seeks a new life by passing for white. Beas love for her daughter is tested when she and Jessie fall for the same man.

Yes, it's Imitation of Life. There is one from, I think, the 1950s starring Lana Turner, which is the remake.
