Why is everyone (both Hollywood and the general public) obsessed with remakes?!

Question: Unless the original was truly terrible, why mess with a good thing if you don't have to? It seems like everything these days is being remade with new actors and completely different storylines. If Hollywood doesn't come up with it first, then the public begs for someone to do it for them.

The world is running out of original ideas. It's sad.

If the original Author is dead, they don't have to pay for using his story.

Its a mixture of no original scripts, overpriced actors and actresses, and budgets. A movie is a bust if it has a $10 million actor in it and it doesnt gross more than $100 million in the box office. So, commericially its easier to get a popular actor/actress to be in the movie, and rather rely on acting and talent, movies are made with CGI and clever editing tricks.

It seems to me they run out of ideas for "good" movies. Remakes are not always successful when they try to "update" it. I prefer the original.

I think that they do remakes because they are running out of ideas or they think that they could do better. Which they cant! I don't like remakes at all! I expecially hate when american filmmakers remake/ruin good asian horror films. I think they need to start coming up with new ideas. It really makes me mad when they (try to) remake Hitchcock films. They are doing a remake of The Birds. There should be a law against remaking his films!
