We Own the Night or The Departed?!
Question: I saw on the back of We Own the Night that one critic said it was better than The Departed? I said WHAT? It was really good(come on Mark Wahlburg AND Juaquin Phoenix on screen together..nice) But I liked The Departed better.(Leo,Wahlburg, and Damon..even better!) Just curious!

Neither ... Infernal Affairs, the Andy Lau movie from Hong Kong on which The Departed was based.
I had huge issues with The Departed. I don't like remakes of films so recent. I think it is offensive. It would be like instead of translating 100 Years of Solitude, reading it in Spanish and then writing your own version in English. Not acceptable. Anyway, Scorsese has gone to ****, Leo is always out of his depth, and Matt Damon is solid (apart from that accent). Jack was great. But the film is less intelligible plot-wise than Infernal Affairs, which was half an hour SHORTER! The cinematography was OK, but the editing was piss-poor.
We Own The Night was a little above average, but nonetheless was confused. The opening erotic scene really confuses the tone of the relationship between Eva and Joaquin. But there are several moments of superb direction (the car/shotgun scene does an excellent job of simulating the visceral nature of those events; the jump out of the window again superbly emulating a person's response to those events).
Departed was better, I agree.

the departed was a really great movie, i dont think it can be compared like that. i really enjoyed it, and the acting was great
The Departed was a dissapoinment for me. It didn't flow quite as well as it should have, and it just didn't have the level of intensity I expected from a cast/director/producucer of that quality. It was a good film though.
But yeah, We Own the Night was better. But then again, dont believe the reviews you read on the back of a movie box.

I'm half way through "We Own the Night" and its pretty good so far, its definitely right up there with the Departed and American Gangster.
i couldnt enjoy the departed as much because i seen the original first. we own the night was fresh so i thought that was better
The Departed was a 1000x better. We Own the Night was lame in comparison. In fact, I just thought it was lame.
