"Simon Birch" does not actually drown...if you remember he talks in the hospital to his friend before he dies. He dies of complications from being under the water...cold water for so long and the strain. He had many health problems including a heart that was too small. That movie was based on the book "A Prayer For Owen Meany"!

Drowning saving other kids on a bus coming from church camp.
He did NOT drown, I think he got pneumonia from the cold water after saving the children from the bus, and being so prone to disease caused his death.
Lovely film, too.
