Can you name me some films that don't have happy endings?!

Question: I'm looking for films in which the world isn't saved/the hero doesn't get the girl/the hero doesn't die to save the world/the Americans don't come up with a plan to save the planet, just for a change, are there any films with unhappy endings?

No Country For Old Men, Requiem For A Dream, All of the SAW's, Night of the Living Dead (Older One), Dawn of the Dead (Recent One), Dead Silence, Dracula (altough you could argue with that), Fight Club, 3:10 to Yuma, Silent Hill, The Grudge 1 and 2, The Thin Red Line, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, The Shining and Pet Semetary.

Give me some time - i will keep on editing my answer when a new one pops into my head.
It's true that most films have happy endings and, i am also getting fed up.

Pay it Forward.

No country for old men

Many, many French films, but particularly "Lift to the Scaffold" (Ascenseur Pour L'Echafard). Miles Davis did the soundtrack for this BW film and it is well acted and filmed if depressing. The characters in it are trapped in the consequences of their actions. Since their choices were negative from the start (robbery, adultery, premeditated murder) there is no way they can have a happy ending. Many French films of the 1950's are in this class, particularly those of the Existentialist school.

Most films made in Spain and Latin America. They seem to thrive on tragedy.

The Good Son
Shane
Terminator 2
Rocky
Planet of the Apes
Don't Look now
Night of the Living Dead
Fight Club
Casablanca
Chinatown
Blair Witch Project
One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest
Easy Rider

The Bridges of Madison County was a bummer.
Also, The Perfect Storm (all the fishermen drowned).

Marebito,
Cursed (the japanese one not the one about werewolves),
Battle for the Planet of the apes (but it sucks)
and my personal fave unbreakable

"Out of Africa"

Terminator 3
Kramer vs Kramer
Invasion of the Bodysnatchers
War of the Roses
Thelma and Louise
1984
My Girl (...well... maybe that *was* a happy ending.)

Il Postino
La Vita E Bella
Forrest Gump
One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest
The Diving Bell and The Butterfly

brave heart
city of Angel
million dollas baby

Star Wars: The empire strikes back. Han's frozen in carbonite, Luke has a plastic hand and the situation of the resistance is looking desperate as he, Chewing tobacco and Leia are looking out of the space ship window with very long faces.

Well saw,hostel,300 and slap her shes french!!!!!!!

Atonement.
The Departed

I'm sorry, I can't think of any others.
