How many hippies were there in 1945??!

Question: I’m just curious, because Donald Sutherland plays one in the movie “Kelly’s Heroes” which seems totally absurd.

Answers: I’m just curious, because Donald Sutherland plays one in the movie “Kelly’s Heroes” which seems totally absurd.

It is; Donald was doing it as a comic bit. "There you go with those negative waves, Moriarity!" He did everything but say, "Bummer, man!"

I love that character! "Woof-woof!" (That's my dog impression)

NONE... there were no "Hippies" until the 1960's... because there was NO HIP GENERATION until the 1960's... that's where the term comes from... member of the "Hip Generation" were called "Hippies" and were easily recognized by their tie-died Tee shirts, dirty, torn and patched Jeans... and the girls had long, stringy, dirty hair with flowers in it.

Everyone drove around in an old VW Bus with peace signs spray painted on it. It was the "Age of Aquarius" and free love...

It was a 10 year long block party on a national scale.

That's enough for me to find my old "Peter, Paul and Mary Sound book" and put on some "Weavers" records.

ive never heard of hippies in the '40s

I haven't seen it but just read the plot summery and it seems as though he played a tank commander. I don't know of any hippies that joined the services so that indicates to me that he wasn't a hippie in the movie. However you saw it, I didn't. There were defiantly people who had similar thoughts and Ideas of hippies. I mean the thoughts of peace, love, and understanding are organic wants for the human race and began long before the 1960's, but to label them "hippies"; I'm not so sure about that.

It would be funny if they had a 2Pac character in the movie.
