oh ! yes he was tall with a black hat ,Shaft

Of course.
Shaft was made by a seminal AA filmmaker, Gordon Parks, who was quite an accomplished photographer prior to becoming a director ( as his son is too).
It was a something more than a "blaxploitation" film which it is sometimes mistakenly identified as. Though it shared certain genre determinants with films of that ilk (Super Fly, Cleopatra Jones etc.), Shaft transcended the genre by not only having an empowered black protagonist in an urban setting, but Shaft (Richard Roundtree) also occasionally worked with white law enforcement, albeit on his terms. There are other reasons I won't bore you with here.

If you have seen American Gangster, then you know the character in Shaft, Bumpy Jones is based on a real person.

Issac Hayes won the Academy Award for his brilliant score of the movie and once you see the opening scene you will understand why.

Well worth 2 hours of your time.

The modern remake (or updated version) with Samuel L Jackson, though well cast and acted, suffers the same problems as neo-noir films do. The style and aesthetic is from a different era and recapturing it in a modern milieu is problematic.

Okay, who doesn't remember should be the question...

Of course, one of the baddest black cinema films out there.

"Can you dig it?"

Ya damn right!

Loved the theme song!
