Is time travel even theoretically possible yet?!

Question: I mean, going back to ancient Egypt or zooming millions of years into the future. In theory, is it possible yet?

Just wondering.

In theory, yes and no.

In technical papers physicists generally avoid the commonplace language of "moving" or "travelling" through time ('movement' normally refers only to a change in spatial position as the time coordinate is varied), and instead discuss the possibility of closed time like curves, which are world-lines that form closed loops in space-time, allowing objects to return to their own past. There are known to be solutions to the equations of general relativity that describe space times which contain closed time like curves, but the physical plausibility of these solutions is uncertain.

Physicists take for granted that if one were to move away from the Earth at relativistic velocities and return, more time would have passed on Earth than for the traveller, so in this sense it is accepted that relativity allows "travel into the future" (although according to relativity there is no single objective answer to how much time has 'really' passed between the departure and the return).
On the other hand, many in the scientific community believe that backwards time travel is highly unlikely. Any theory which would allow time travel would require that issues of causality be resolved.

However, the theory of general relativity does suggest scientific grounds for thinking backwards time travel could be possible in certain unusual scenarios, although arguments from semi classical gravity suggest that when quantum effects are incorporated into general relativity, these loopholes may be closed.
These semi classical arguments led Stephen Hawking to formulate the chronology protection conjecture, suggesting that the fundamental laws of nature prevent time travel, but physicists cannot come to a definite judgement on the issue without a theory of quantum gravity to join quantum mechanics and general relativity into a completely unified theory.

Maybe for advanced extraterrestial civilizations it 'might' be, but as of yet for us here on Earth......NO! I guess in 'theory' it could be, one could 'theorize' about just about anything, but making that theory a reality is a whole other story.

Like many other myths, it is just illusion and magic, which we all know doesn't exist.

in theory yes its possible, there is no theory that can take that down, and some places talk about it, watch the video in the source of this reply and it will explain it a bit more in depth for you

Well... I already have gone back in time for your information. I spent 5 whole days in my room perfecting my eco-friendly, money making time machine. I traveled back in time and brought back a dinosaur with me... but then my mom said I had to take him back, so I did, but took a quick stop in ancient Rome to see what it was like.... too bad everybody tried to kill me 'cuz they thought I was some dude that was wanted DOA, so I went home. But would you believe it when I got back home and started eating supper and I heard an electric type sound coming from my room. I went upstairs and my dog was drooling all over the engine, so it's destroyed now (I burned what was left of it) so I uess until I build a new one... time travel isn't really theoretically possible..... glad I could help!!

Technically, we are all already "travelling" through time - unfortunately we cannot control the speed or the direction.

Deep, huh?
