Well... They were in WWII and even when Guido try to be strong for his kid; it's possible to see him tired from the heavy work...
One scene that particullary hit me; is when Guido thought that the doctor who loved riddles was going to helping, so he (Guido) goes near him thinking that the doctor would tell him a way to scape... but, all he did was to ask him the answer of a riddle (what animal goes "cuack, cuack" and is yellow?? Duh! Obviously, a duck... and the stupid doctor thought it was a ornitorrinco)... in that point you see Guido's heart breaking... You see how the was shocked to notice that the doctor wouldn't help him, knowing what was Guido's situation... Remember that at that time Guido had his hope on the doctor... He even told Josué (his son) that they would probably leaves soon... 'cus he thought the doctor would actually do something...
The two times that he contacted with Dora (his wife) were so beautiful shown... The first one is when he's with his son and they brake into a office and start saying in the microphone "Bongiorno, Principessa!" (Good morning, my princess) and talking about that they are ok... Dora hears them and you see that women feeling at the same relief to hear them as well as overwhelmed... and also, when Guido is in the restaurant and he puts the music of Les Contes d'Hoffman, the opera... "Belle Nuit" was the name of the song... you can see how Dora, again feels so overwhelmed by it... I find those scenes so beautiful... and so full of hope...
Also, at the end of the movie you see when Guido tells Josué to hide and he leaves to look for Dora you see how desperate is he, 'cus he know that all the people who get in the trucks do not come back... and he tells the women to jump when they can... after searching and walking around he is seen by the Nazi (some light points at him) and his being gun pointed at and he realizes he'll die and see the place where his kid is hidden and he tries to be strong one last time and walks in a funny way so his kid won't worry...
It's just beautiful...
I know it seems like there's no despair... however, the movie is particullary about despair... but, about hope among despair... So, you see this guy in a horrible place and time trying all the way to maintain his boy's innocence... Again, it's about hope in times of despairs...

one of my favorite movies! it is amazing! Just watch it. it is worth it.
I love this movie but i cant really think of any dispairs, maybe at the end of the movie when he goes to war and he tries to find his wife and he shields his son from the German concentration camp to protect him.
