I just rewatched the Lord of the Rings cartoon?!

Question: That was made in 1978 and covers the Fellowship of the Ring and the Two Towers.

Anyway Im seething that the director never made a part 2 covering the Return of the King and dont say theres a ROTK cartoon from 1980 as that looks CRAP nothing on the 78 version.

Does this bug anyone else?

Yes, it's annoying. Basically the first film was not a success, and Ralph Bakshi, the director, was unable to secure funding for a sequel.

He died,,that`s one of the main reasons,,

I wouldn't say it bugged me but am gutted he didn't get round to making the ROTK as I loved the animated version.

You have to remember that it is only within the last 10 to 15 years that sequels or continued stories were main as a rule, rather than exception. At the time and from the beginning of movie studio production, movies were envisioned as single events. The thought of a sequel or multi parts was unheard of. He may have said, this is too much for one movie, we need two, but was probably shot down by execs.
Directors had very little power and money at the time and it wasn't until the audiences becam sophisticated and looked for the director as much as the star that studios began letting them have more say, as far as granting hem money.
It wasn't until Lucas and Speilberg showed that sequels could make money that studios began considering the idea.
It wasn't until Back to the Future that the idea of making more than one movie at a time proved it would work that that idea became feasible.

Hey, I get pissed every time I see a live action movie version of a comic book or cartoon super hero because they (the studios) ALWAYS find a way to f*ck it up.

Look at how horrendous X-Men 3 was. First off, WHY did they have to give it to that idiot Rush Hour guy to direct?

The Phoenix is supposed to be this ultra powerful, fiery bird who can fly into outer space at warp whatever number you wanna apply and eat planets. Instead we get ripped off by having this pale faced beyotch with a bad attitude.

The first Fantastic Four movie was bad enough, but the sequel was nearly unwatchable.

Other examples: Catwoman, Elektra, the Hulk, Constantine, Daredevil, and Ghost Rider.

They should have just followed the excellent example of the Incredibles and gone either totally CGI or just do a complete animated movie. Live action totally sucks major c0ck and balls!

It's annoying yes. But they actually were running out of money making what they already did! (you can clearly tell there is a distinct lack of animation in some parts & real actors were used instead)

Personally, I think the entire thing was crap. The animate version of the Hobbit wasn't bad but I did not like the lotr version.

*Been a fan of the books since I was a small child*
