I actually think it is one of the most important films to be made in the last 10 years or so. Without giving too much away, it definitely is not a gangster movie!
It is set in America in the early 1900s and spanning practically 30 years -so it is an epic in every sense of the word! It is about a man named Daniel Plainview who is an 'oil man', he digs for and harvests oil, with his son H.W. And it follows his career and examines how he deals with the various highs and lows.
In another way, it is all about America and the highs and lows it has enjoyed. It also says a fair bit about industry versus religion, and says a lot about people in general. It's just a great character study driven by a phenomenal performance.
not a gangster movie at all. its a movie about a oil guy who will stop at nothing to be rich. he is brash and vengeful. it is a great movie

it is about an oil prospector who will stop at nothing and i mean absolutely nothing to be rich,he is also a very vengeful and brash selfish man as well,however movie is not really about gangsters at all to tell you the truth.personally i loved it but the person above me seems to have not exactly felt the same way.also set in the 1900's
I think it's a movie about Iraq and Saddam Hussein.
