I might rephrase your question. Samuel L. Jackson ?perceived? a miracle, based on some highly unlikely events, whereas Travolta didn't interpret those events the same way. He refused to attribute any divine intervention on the six missed bullets.

Their interpretation of those events guides them into different paths, and it costs Vincent his life.

Good question! I think Samuel L. Jackson was right as Vincent ultimately ended up dead after the diner scene, but it was left kinda open so I'll be curious as to others' opinion on this question as well.....

Let's see, which is the most likely explanation...

A) The guy firing the gun missed.

B) A super natural being created the earth and the human race and lets all sorts of violence befall his little creations for millions of years, but one day he decides to intervene on bahalf of a common thug and he comes down from heaven and stops bullets for him, then disappears back to heaven and never shows himself or explains anything.

Vincent was right.
